Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Mats Hummels will join Bayern on a five-year deal.
The 27-year-old returns to Munich where he started his professional career. It is believed that the German giants will pay €38 million, but the official fee has been undisclosed. He had one year left on his contract.
- Mats is one of the world's best centre-backs. He will increase the quality of our team even more - said Bayern chief executive, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
It has been confirmed that Hummels himself made the decision to leave Dortmund.
- Mats Hummels has decided to return to his home town Munich after having long and intensive thoughts eight and a half years after his transfer to BVB - Hans-Joachim Watzke, CEO of Borussia, is quoted on their official website.
- I would like to mention that he has always been open and fair towards us. Mats won two German Championships with BVB and won the Double in 2012, he reached the Champions League final with us in 2013 and he won the World Cup as a Dortmund player in 2014 - he added.
- We respect Mats' decision and we wish him and BVB that he will be shown the recognition he deserves in his last weeks in Black Yellow and that he leaves Dortmund holding the DFB Cup aloft.
The defender joined Borussia in 2009. He has made 48 appearances in total this season and managed to score three goals.
