Newcastle United head coach Rafael Benitez has confirmed he wants to sign Lucas Perez.
Arsenal striker this summer will most likely change the employer. Not long ago, Deportivo La Coruña, who sent the official offer, was closest to secure his arrival. This was satisfactory for the Gunners, but they decided to wait for a higher offer. This may come from Newcastle soon, who are also interested in the 28-year-old, as confirmed by the manager of Magpies.
"I like Pérez because I have many good friends in A Coruña and I know he was doing very well there. He moved to England and did not play in too many matches but I like him. We know what we need and we will try to do it before the end of the transfer window," said Benitez in a conversation with journalists.
"Evening Standard" report that Arsenal are now demanding £13.4 million for their striker. Newcastle are not too eager to meet such conditions, but are trying to convince The Gunners to loan the player out. This solution does not suit both the Londoners and the footballer himself, who would like to definitely part with the club, which, in his opinion, have deceived him.
Pérez came to the Emirates Stadium last year after a successful campaign in the colors of Deportivo. Despite his good form, Arsène Wenger did not want to put him in the starting lineup. Already in January the striker wanted to leave, but the club did not allow him. The Spaniard spent a total of less than a thousand minutes in 21 matches on the pitch. This did not prevent him from scoring seven goals and adding five assists.
